The Beginning

Unlike the last two trips this first page actually has phtotos. This trip was different in more important ways. Firstly I am living in Kansas and secondly I was doing it with a friend as Jen was meeting me in Denver.

Drive Part 1

Not much to report here. After a day at work I finally left home quite late in the evening, thanks in no small part to going on a climbing trip the previous weekend rather than organising things for this trip. I arrived at my hotel in Hays about 1am and promptly went to bed.

Drive Part 2

The next morning I drove to Denver. Jeepers, western Kansas and Eastern Colorado are flat and boring. I got to Denver with plenty of time to spare so headed to Barr Lake State Park to kill some time before picking up Jen. I went for a nice walk, the highlight of which was seeing a young deer and it's mum (look, pictures!). After heading to the airport I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly Jen got through immigration and we were soon on our way to Casper where we were spending the night. This took longer than expected thanks to me somehow totally missing an interstate and ending up doing quite a long detour. But we arrived and were soon asleep, despite the the presence of three police cars in the motel car park - we never did find out why.

Drive Part 3

The next day we headed to Yellowstone. There was certainly more boring driving on the way but things got a lot more interesting once we left Cody with the road getting much more mountainous and scenic. Eventually we arrived in the national park and promptly found lots of tourists stopped on, or by, the road taking photos of Buffalo that were sometimes also on the road. This was a recurring theme of the trip but I don't have too many photos as I was normally driving and we didn't stop. Are aim was to head to a campsite to make sure we had somewhere to camp for that night and we managed to get one of the last sites at Tower, although the drive had taken quite a bit longer than we had expected.
